"Amber In The Clay" by Davie Gayle (Country Artist from Riverside County, California (CA))

If Emmylou Harris had ever decided to rock out in her career, then the result would have sounded something like Davie Gayle's latest record, "Amber In The Clay." With songs ranging from country to contemporary ballads, Gayle takes us for a trip down Americana lane and does not disappoint. Her pristine country vocals sound wonderful and emulate classic Dolly Parton, but still have an original feel to it. You can hear Gayle's sweet voice on songs like "Get Me" and "You Don't Say." Looking for the Americana feel? Look no further than the title track as it is a perfect listen for anyone who enjoyed Robert Plant/Alison Krauss's disc ("Raising Sand"). There are also some fine pedal steel guitar moments on this record, as heard on "3:09." If you are looking for that timeless female country vocal tone with a little rock 'n' roll under it, then this Davie Gayle's "Amber In The Clay" is for you.

"Where We Come From" by Ray William Roldan (Country Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

If Tom Petty ever went full-on country, then it would most likely sound something like Ray William Roldan's latest effort "Where We Come From." Roldan does a terrific job fusing country with pop-riddled vocal melodies and honky-tonk guitar riffs. There are some typical, yet well played country moments on this disc, particularly on songs like "My Country Rocks" and "Cowboy Cadillac." However, what make this album shine are tunes like "Back to Texas," which strongly resemble some of the later Traveling Wilburys work. Another nod to that sound comes by way of Roldan's vocals which emulate Jeff Lynne and cult country legend J.J. Cale. Ray William Roldan's "Where We Come From" is a very enjoyable disc whether you are a diehard country fan and/or love that Americana/pop style.

"The Ballad Of Billy Saigon" by Wes and Victoria (Folk Artist from Colorado(CO))

"The Ballad Of Billy Saigon" by Wes and Victoria is folk rock/Americana at its best and deserves a good listen from any fan of that genre. Originally hailing from Texas, the duo's work has that southern feel and is a great mix of folk, rock, country and good ol' cowboy music. Wes has a very unique singing voice that is particularly raw, letting you feel every note and word he is singing. The harmonica talent of Victoria is well highlighted on songs like "Trail of Tears," and it sounds great. There is also a very welcoming Rolling Stones-influenced number called "Love Got a Mind of Its Own," a song that could easily be compared to anything the Stones did in their best years. For listeners that enjoy folk rock and Bob Dylan, Wes and Victoria's "The Ballad Of Billy Saigon" is definitely worth listening to.

"Under My Skin" by Carla Seidl (Folk Artist from New York(NY))

Accomplished solo female artist Carla Seidl has released her debut album "Under My Skin," exhibiting the musical style of folk with a touch of jazz. Seidl has a talent for writing heartfelt lyrics with emotional flair. Her vocals are sleek, and they shine through each single. On the title track "Under My Skin," her first original song, the lyrics reflects on one's inner being and bonding with others. As a switch from her original music, Seidl has spun her own twist on Simon and Garfunkel's "Scarborough Fair" with style and grace. This album is performed with vocals and acoustic guitar, which give a soft and soothing quality to the entire collection. "Under My Skin" is an album well worth hearing and fans of folk music will want to experience the relaxing atmosphere of Seidl's creative songwriting and silky vocals.

"Fire...Brimstone & Love" by Connie Strange (Spiritual/Country Artist from Indiana (IN))

Vocalist Connie Strange whips up a fantastic album, filled with gospel, blues, country, and even the slightest touch of jazz in her newest effort, "Fire…Brimstone & Love." The lead off track states what the entire CD has to offer with "He Said," an eclectic mix of blues and gospel spreading the word of God. Strange wasn't being clever when she named the disc "Fire…Brimstone & Love" for no reason. Although most of the songs are upbeat with a faith based message, tracks like "Are You Ready" talk about death and when the time comes, He will take you away… that is, if you are ready. A hidden gem on this album is Strange's cover of Louie Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World." We have all heard this done by so many, but Strange throw hers country/gospel flare into the mix and creates a great atmosphere with a song that could have easily fallen flat amongst a million other versions floating around in record stores. Gospel and country music fanatics will really enjoy "Fire…Brimstone & Love" and it may just get you to church on Sunday!

"Hide and Speak" by Nessi (Country Artist from Germany)

Award winning singer Nessi flaunts her angelic voice on her newest album which is embedded with acoustic folk/jazz material on "Hide and Speak." Her partner in crime, Canadian guitar player William Mackenzie, also does his part with some solid acoustic playing. Nessi showcases her polished vocal range on songs "Like Steel" and "Empty" while also depicting her stories through her lyrics quite well. Mackenzie's guitar playing shines through on "Midnight" with his James Taylor-esqe finger style picking. In addition to these two fine musicians are notable guests Harry Manx and Kevin Breit who has played with Norah Jones. "Hide and Speak" is a must have for any fan of Carla Bruni or Norah Jones.

"Richard Bowden with Moon & The Starz" is an impressive self-titled release showcasing a flexible and talented group with a refined sound that blends both traditional and contemporary styles of country music with blues and rock-n-roll. From the festive, island flavor of "Reynosa Rose" to the bluesy "All For The Price Of One Love," each song shines in its own exclusive and distinct way. Listen to the witty and humorous "Please Come To New Boston" and the polished shuffle groove of "Battle Of Losers." RadioIndy is pleased to present Rusty Rierson with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Till The Fat Lady Sings"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Rusty Rierson with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Till The Fat Lady Sings"

"Till The Fat Lady Sings" is a high energy country-pop album brought to you by Kansas' own Rusty Rierson. Randy has all the elements in place with great melodies, harmonies, arrangements and performances. Rusty's voice leads the pack with conviction and his song writing ability is superior. Everything seems to fall into place and the result for the listener is a compilation that will spin in your player for years to come. Highlights are the title track "Till The Fat Lady Sings" and "Will You Be My Girl." It is no doubt the title track features a solid arrangement, catchy lyrics and some fantastic harmony in the backing vocals. "Will You Be My Girl" slows things down a bit with a beautiful piano progression. It then evolves into a powerful, heartfelt ballad led by a soulful vocal performance. "My Island & Me" has a great carefree quality to it as it cleverly borders on island music in the arrangement. Fans of country-pop music should definitely pick up "Till The Fat Lady Sings."

"Copperline Hills" by Nowhere Road (Country Artist from Canada)

"Copperline Hills" by Nowhere Road is an excellent mix of country/southern rock and should be on any country fans radar. Although they reside in Canada, far from the Deep South, the band has an incredible feel for the country genre and the interplay between band members really shines. The title track "Copperline Hills" is highly reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd both in the percussion work and the tasty slide guitar. "Harley Day" speaks to all those country fans cruising down the highway on their favorite "hog" with the wind to their back and nothing but the road ahead. The musicality on this CD is well worth listening to and should be heard by all fans of music.
