RadioIndy is pleased to present Movin Melvin Brown with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Just A Little Country "

RadioIndy is pleased to present Movin Melvin Brown with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Just A Little Country "

The considerable strengths of Movin' Melvin Brown's "Just a Little Country" CD, are due as much to the legacies of soul legends like Clarence Carter and Solomon Burke, as to the country artists and songs that ostensibly inspired this album. Indeed, Brown's Country has little to do with contemporary Nashville sounds, but instead is informed with the deep soul stylings of Soul music forebears and genre-crossing '70's-era performers like Tom T. Hall and Don Williams. Reaching back 20-some years for a fine cover of The Judds' "Love Can Build a Bridge," or even further for his excellent rendering of Buck Owens' "Together Again," Movin' Melvin shows what he can do with a standard. But his originals, like "I'm Gonna Love You" and "A World Made of Love," have equal authenticity, but far more soulfulness. Other standouts include the terrific "Strawberry Wine" and the very-Arthur Alexander-like "Give Me Time." The multi-talented Movin' Melvin Brown is definitely a musical throw-back; eschewing over-the-top production values for honest, stripped-down arrangements that put the song front and center, "Just a Little Country" is a great CD for old school southern soul-meets-country fans.

"The Easy Leaves" by The Easy Leaves (Country Artist from California(CA))

The Easy Leaves serve up some well crafted songs on their new self-titled album, "The Easy Leaves." This is a record comprised of bluegrass, honky-tonk, and country songs all composed with a vibrant, fresh, and original tonality. Starting off the album the song, "Neon Sign," is an old-fashioned toe-tapping song, in which guitar, harmonica, and well harmonized vocals all help to spin this colorful melody. Another song, "Lines of Stone & Dust" is a gentle and slow moving song that is steeped with emotive vocals and laid back acoustic guitar chords. "Dance With me Katie" is a catchy and fun musical number that will get you off your feet in no time as it has charming lyrics that swirl around the vibrant and upbeat rhythm. This album is perfect for those who appreciate talented traditional country/bluegrass music that is fresh and original. If you are a fan of The Avett Brothers or Wilco then you would thoroughly enjoy the collection of memorable country music on the album, "The Easy Leaves."

"Nashville Tracks" by Jim Wise (Country Artist from Las Vegas, Nevada(NV))

Highly talented Country musician, Jim Wise, and his latest release "Nashville Tracks" is an album recorded in the traditional country/rock style and is loaded with a substantial 17 tracks. The song, "Tearing Me Apart," is a slow country tune in which Wise pours out his heart into the microphone as the piano and acoustic guitar interplay with his heartfelt lyrics. "You Loved The Hell Out Of Me" is a fun loving honky-tonk piece, with just a hint of bluegrass due to the addition of a fiddle, in which Wise reminisces about an interesting past relationship. Wise also rocks out on the song, "Good Girls Go To Heaven," in a jubilant and louder country rock song that reminds one of a combination of ZZ Top and Lyle Lovett. "Nashville Tracks" is an album that is well produced and has dynamic balance. It is a great mix of straight up classic country music songs. If you are a fan of Alan Jackson or Garth Brooks you should check out Jim Wise and his outstanding collection of songs on "Nashville Tracks."
